Latest statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency show that the area notified for felling in June and July increased, compared to the corresponding months in 2022. However, the regional variations are large. The area of applications for permits for final felling in montane forests in June was almost four times as large as in June last year. In July, however, it was 18 percent lower.
Experience regarding statistics on notifications and applications show that they can vary from month to month due to the forestry planning of various actors. One should therefore be cautious and refrain from drawing conclusions about the planned felling.
The area of notified logging and permits applied for was 25,789 hectares in June, which was 20 percent more than June 2022. Of this area, applications for permits for final felling of montane forests was 1,439 hectares, compared with 375 hectares in the same month last year.
Compared to the average area in notifications and applications for the country in June over the past five years, this is unchanged. Compared to the average area for the last ten years, this is a decrease of 3 percent.
The area of notified logging and permits applied for was 16,376 hectares in July, which was 11 percent more than July 2022. Of this area, applications for permits for final felling of montane forests was 193 hectares, compared with 234 hectares in the same month last year.
Compared to the average area in notifications and applications for the country in July over the past five years, this is a decrease of 13 percent. Compared to the average area for the last ten years, this is a decrease of 14 percent.
In total, the area in notifications and applications increased in June in Norrland and in Götaland. In Svealand however, the area decreased, compared with June last year.
In total, the area in notifications and applications increased in July in Northern Norrland, Svealand and in Götaland. In Southern Norrland however, the area decreased, compared with July last year.
For the period January to July, the area in notifications and applications for permits for final felling has increased by 19 percent, compared to the same period last year. So far this year, the area of applications for permits for final felling of montane forests is 9,725 hectares, in the corresponding period last year the area was 2,913 hectares.
In Northern Norrland, the area notified and applied for has increased by 56 percent, in Southern Norrland by 13 percent and in Götaland by 27 percent. In Svealand however it has decreased by 1 percent, compared to the first seven months of the year 2022.
Compared to the average area of notifications and applications for the country in the first seven months of the year in the last five years, the increase is 2 percent. Also compared to the last ten years, the increase is 2 per cent.
Increased or decreased area in notifications and applications for permits for final felling does not necessarily mean that the area of actual final felling has increased or decreased to the same extent.
Statistics refer to total notifications for felling and applications for permission on productive forest land for final felling in montane forest and valuable broad-leaved forest.
