The average proportion of forest land area left as environmental consideration areas after a regeneration felling is 8.5 percent. The proportion of the environmental consideration areas which consists of areas of high or very high conservation value is 3.8 percent while the remaining 4.7 percent consists of ordinary conservation value. On average, approximately 10.5 conservation trees are left on the felled area. The average volume of dead wood left on the felled area amounts to 7.5 cubic metres per hectare.
February saw an increase in the area notified or applied for felling in February of 1 percent, compared to 2025. The area regarding applications for permits for felling in montane forests decreased 5 percent, compared to the same month last year.
In total, forest owners notified and applied for final felling on 252,438 hectares of forest land in 2025, which is an increase of 3 percent in comparison to 2024. Notified area for regeneration felling in normal forest, according to Section 14 of the Forestry Act, increased by 6 percent. The area of applications of regeneration felling in montane forests decreased by 47 percent.
During the fourth quarter prices on roundwood for harvesting assignments for sawlogs of Scots pine increased by 3 percent and by 2 percent for sawlogs of Norway spruce. Prices on pulpwood of conifers and broadleaved trees increased by 1 percent in comparison to the third quarter of 2025. The roundwood prices refer to calculated prices and therefore does not reflect the prevailing market price during the quarter.
January saw an increase of 35 percent in the area notified or applied for felling, compared to January 2025. The area regarding applications for permits for felling in montane forests decreased 71 percent, compared to January last year.
Stocks of coniferous sawlogs have increased compared with the previous levels at the end of the previous quarter, according to the Swedish Forest Agency’s stock survey. Stocks of pulp chips have decreased, and stocks of pulpwood remain at approximately the same level.
In 2025, the Swedish Forest Agency paid out nearly SEK 250 million in infringement compensation to landowners for denied felling permission in montane forests. This is a decrease of approximately SEK 70 million compared with the previous year. At the same time, the area covered by the Swedish Forest Agency's establishment of biotope protection areas and nature conservation agreements increased during 2025.
December saw a decrease of 27 percent in the area notified or applied for felling, compared to December 2024. The area regarding applications for permits for felling in montane forests decreased 90 percent, compared to December last year.
During the third quarter prices on roundwood for harvesting assignments for sawlogs decreased by 2 percent while they increased by 2 percent for pulpwood in comparison to the second quarter of 2025. The roundwood prices refer to calculated prices and therefore does not reflect the prevailing market price during the quarter.
The Swedish Forest Agency's latest inventory shows an increase in the proportion of damaged known cultural heritage sites subject to regeneration felling. The proportion with damage or serious damage were 18 percent in 2025. This represents a statistically significant increase compared to 2024 and the highest level since 2020.
