Stocks of coniferous sawlogs and pulpwood have increased compared with the previous quarter, according to the Swedish Forest Agency’s stock survey. Stocks of pulp chips have decreased.
As of 31 March 2026, total stocks of coniferous sawlogs, pulp chips and pulpwood amounted to 10.8 million cubic metres. This is an increase of approximately 1.3 million cubic metres compared with the reported stock volume in the previous quarter. All volumes are given in solid cubic metres under bark (m³f ub).
• Coniferous sawlogs: 4.6 million cubic metres (+ 1.2 million cubic metres)
• Pulp chips: 0.8 million cubic metres (- 0.1 million cubic metres)
• Pulpwood: 5.4 million cubic metres (+ 0.4 million cubic metres)
Ahead of 2026, a review was carried out of the respondents included in the survey. The number of respondents has not changed to any significant extent. However, following the change, the survey covers larger stock volumes. Overall, the changes are estimated to have increased the stock volume by approximately 350.000 m³f ub.
The changes mean improved quality. They should therefore be considered when comparing with previous results.
In 2024, a new question was introduced on stocks of roundwood for energy purposes. The results are not yet included in the official statistics, as the data quality is not sufficient. The survey does not yet cover all sites where such stocks may be held, and the data is not adjusted for partial non-response.
The published figures therefore underestimate the actual stock volumes. The results are nevertheless published because no other statistics are available, and the data are in demand. The reported stock volume of roundwood for energy purposes as of 31 March was approximately 872.000 cubic metres.
