Formally protected forest land, voluntary set-asides, consideration patches and unproductive forest land

Here you will find statistics of forest land within the four forms Formally protected forest land, Voluntary set-asides, Consideration patches and Unproductive forest land. Where possible, the statistics are reported by county level or by geographical regions. The information is produced in collaboration between four Swedish authorities; Statistics Sweden, the Swedish Forest Agency, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and the Swedish National Forest Inventory.

In 2018, the Swedish Forest Agency, together with Statistics Sweden, SLU and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, was given a joint government assignment to prepare a cohesive official statistic for forest land. There was no information on the measures used to protect the forest land and the development over time. The assignment also included creating an increased consensus on which areas should be counted as formal protection and voluntary set-asides.

Statistics from the government assignment were published for the first time in 2019. Since then, the authorities have continued to collaborate and the presentation now includes more variables. Statistics Sweden is responsible for publishing on its website. The content is largely a compilation of already published statistics at each authority.

Here you will find some of the results. If you want to know more, visit Statistics Sweden's website.
