Swedish Forest Agency have conducted a new survey on prices for roundwood starting from the first quarter of 2025. Today, the results are presented for the first time and shows an increase in roundwood prices in the second quarter for both sawlogs and pulpwood by 9 and 7 percent respectively in comparison to the first quarter of 2025.
The purpose of the new survey is to publish more comprehensive price statistics that include more delivery forms than previously reported.
In the new questionnaire, companies that purchase roundwood from forest owners provide price information for roundwood that has been calculated after measuring the volume during the previous quarter. Data are reported for the delivery forms harvesting assignment and delivery timber by the assortments: sawlogs of Scots pine, sawlogs of Norway spruce, pulpwood of conifers, pulpwood of broadleaved trees and fuelwood.
The statistics are presented for four regions: Northern Norrland, Southern Norrland, Svealand, and Götaland. The results for the first and second quarters are preliminary, and the statistics may be subject to revision.
The statistics refer to prices for measured wood where additions are included, and deductions are excluded. The price refers to the purchase price of the wood that the buying company has calculated during the quarter. No deductions are made for harvesting costs.
Differences compared with previous statistics
The new statistics differ from previously published figures, for example through a new method of data collection, new variables, a partly different point of measurement, and changes in what is included in each assortment.
Differences from earlier statistics mean that comparisons with previously published statistics for delivery timber should be made with caution.
When comparing between regions, it should be taken into account that different regional conditions may affect such comparisons.
The prices increased for all assortments when comparing the second quarter 2025 to the previous quarter. For the second quarter the prices were
Prices on delivery timber increased during the second quarter by 10 percent on sawlogs and 7 percent on pulpwood.
A harvesting assignment is a delivery form in which the harvesting is carried out by, or on behalf of, the roundwood buyer.
Delivery timber is a delivery method in which the forest owner personally, with the help of employees or contractors, delivers the wood to a roadside location.
The calculated price is the price that the forest owner receives after the harvest, referring to the price at the roadside. Various forms of additions, and price deductions are included. No deductions are made for transport to industry, harvesting costs, or future regeneration costs. The price is thus calculated after the measurement at industry, and companies that purchase roundwood from forest owners report price data for roundwood that has been calculated during the previous quarter.
The prices represent averages for volume-weighted quantities of roundwood and are reported in current prices, without adjustment for inflation.
