Study trip on forest damaging agents

Professionals in practical forestry are invited to take part in a unique two-day study trip in northern Sweden and Finland, focusing on climate change adaptation in forest management and the handling of damages caused by Scots pine blister rust and moose browsing.

The trip is organized by the EU Interreg Aurora project ClimateForest and aims to strengthen cross-border cooperation and knowledge sharing among forestry professionals.

The study trip will take place on September 29-30th and is designed for those working with forest regeneration, pre-commercial thinning, and thinning in areas affected by scots pine blister rust.

Two Days in the Field – From Rovaniemi to Övertorneå

Day 1 will begin just outside Rovaniemi, Finland, where Metsähallitus will present its demonstration sites for climate change adaptation in forestry. The day will continue with visits to areas affected by moose browsing.
Day 2 will take place in the forests around Övertorneå, Sweden, where the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden (Skogforsk) will showcase a demonstration site focused on managing stands infected by Scots pine blister rust. Sveaskog will also present stands impacted by moose browsing, where various silvicultural methods have been tested to reduce damage.

Travel will be by bus, with stops at several sites for field-based discussions, experience sharing, and the exchange of ideas.
