New statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency show that the area of notifications for final felling in normal forest so far in 2022 is unchanged compared with the same period 2021. The area of applications in montane forests however, decreased by 61 percent. In total the area notified and applied for has decreased by 4 percent, compared to February 2021.
During January to February this year, the Swedish Forest Agency received 9,641 notifications and applications for permit for final felling, on just over 33,200 hectares. This was 4 percent less than the same period last year.
The number of applications for permit for final felling of montane forests was 25 and covered just under 900 hectares of montane forest.
So far this year, notified and applied area decreased by 19 percent in Götaland and by 12 percent in Southern Norrland, compared to February 2021. In Svealand and in Northern Norrland the area increased by 17 and 8 percent respectively.
At County level, the notified and applied area decreased in 14 of 21 counties. During January to February, the decrease was greatest in Halland and Gotland County, with 55 and 52 percent respectively, compared with the same period 2021. The decrease was also large in Kalmar, Skåne and Kronoberg counties, with 34 to 38 percent.
In four counties the notified and applied area increased by more than 26 percent. The increase was greatest in Uppsala County, with an 85 percent increase, compared with January to February 2021. In Södermanland, Västerbotten and Stockholm counties the area increased by 27, 30 and 43 percent respectively.
