The notified area larger than in 2020 but unchanged in August
New statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency show that during August 2021, the area in notifications and applications for final felling was unchanged, compared with August 2020. The area applied for final felling of montane forests in August 2021 was almost 5 percent larger than in August last year.
The area notified and applied for in August this year are unchanged, compared with August last year. So far this year, however, forest owners have notified and applied for final felling of larger areas than the same period last year.
Notifications and applications in 2021
The total area in notifications and applications in the first eight months of the year 2021, amounted to 173,993 hectares. This is 8 percent more compared with the first eight months of 2020. Applications for final felling of montane forests during the same period amounted to 7,469 hectares, which is 223 percent larger area than the first eight months of 2020. See Table 1.
24 percent increase in Götaland
Notified and applied area in the first eight months of 2021 increased by 24 percent in Götaland, by 6 percent in Svealand and by 5 percent in Northern Norrland, compared to the same period in 2020. In Southern Norrland, notified and applied area decreased by 2 percent, compared to the first eight months of 2020.
81 percent increase in Halland county
At county level, the total notified and applied area increased in 15 of 21 counties in the first eight months of 2021. The largest increase was in Halland County, with 81 percent. In Skåne, Blekinge, Jönköping and Stockholm counties, the increases were 26 to 48 percent. In the counties of Örebro and Gävleborg, however, the registered and applied area decreased by 9 and 19 per cent, respectively, compared with the first eight months of 2020.

Statistics refer to total notifications and applications for permission in productive forest land including felling in mountain forest and valuable broad-leaved forest.
