In 2021 the delivery prices on roundwood increased by 9 percent while the pulp wood prices decreased by 5 percent compared to 2020. Regionally, large differences in development can be seen for both the price of sawlog and pulpwood. In Götaland the price on sawlogs increased by 12 percent while the price on sawlogs was unchanged. The pulpwood price decreased the most in Norra Norrland, by 12 percent. In Södra Norland and Svealand the prices decreased by 2 and 6 percent respectively while the prices in Götaland decreased by 3 percent.
Along with the annual statistics we also present statistics for the fourth quarter of 2021. The pulpwood price increased by 3 percent during the fourth quarter compared to the third quarter. The largest increase was in Götaland by 4 percent while the increase in Svealand was 1 percent. In Norrland, the pulpwood prices decreased in both Södra Norrland and Norra Norrland by 1 and 3 percent respectively.
The price development for sawlog prices was somewhat different. For the entire country the sawlog price increased by 6 percent. In Götaland the sawlog price increased by 9 percent and by 4 percent in both Svealand and Södra Norrland. In Norra Norrland the sawlog price decreased by 1 percent during the fourth quarter in comparison with the third quarter.
Starting in 2021 the roundwood price statistics are published for four regions rather than the three that were previously used. The regions are Norra Norrland, Södra Norrland, Svealand och Götaland. The purpose of the change is to increase the use of the price statistics as many other forestry statistics are presented along these four regions. The new regionalisation is also available from 2019. A consequence of the change is that the volume of timber used in the calculations are slightly lower. There is about 1 to 2 percent of the volume of delivery purchased round wood that cannot be derived to the four new regions.
Delivery purchase is a method which means that the forest owners themselves, with or without the help of employees or contractors, delivers the work on the roadside. Delivery prices account for less than 10 percent of the total sold quantity.
Please note that the average prices are volume-weighted roundwood quantities. These prices refer to current prices, which do not take inflation into account.
