Decrease in roundwood prices 2020

The report of statistics on roundwood prices in 2020 show decreasing delivery prices compared to 2019. The price of pulpwood decreased by 11 percent and the sawlog price by 7 percent compared to 2019, according to new statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency.

The pulpwood price decreased by 11 percent during 2020 compared with 2019 and the price of sawlog decreased by 7 percent. This can be compared to the previous year when pulpwood and sawlog prices increased by 8 and 1 percent.

Greater decline in the Central Region

Regionally, pulpwood prices decreased in the Central region by 13 percent during 2020, and it decreased by 11in the Southern region and 4percent in the Northern region.

The price development for sawlogs also showed a decrease. In the Central region, prices decreased by 9 percent during 2020 compared to 2019. In the Southern region the price decreased by 7 percent and in the Northern region by 3 percent.

Recovery for sawlog prices during the last quarter of 2020

The sawlog prices for the fourth quarter had some recovery in comparison with the third quarter of 2020 and increased by 5 percent. On the other hand, pulpwood price continued to decrease by 3 percent. There were regional differences in pulpwood prices and the largest decrease was in the Northern Region by 11 percent in comparison with the third quarter of 2020.


Delivery purchase is a method which means that the forest owner themselves, with or without the help of employees or contractors, delivers their wood to the roadside. Delivery purchases account for less than 10 percent of the total sold quantity.
