Forest production

Swedish forestry is site adapted. This means that the silvicultural methods used and the tree species selected are well-adapted to the natural conditions of the site. A brief description is given below of the different measures, from the regeneration of new seedlings to the harvesting of mature trees. This is an investment that covers a perspective of 100 years or more involving several generations.

The cycle of silviculture
Green Forest Management Plan  »
In Swedish forest policy, production goals and environmental goals are given equal weight.
Regeneration »
Ever since 1903 the requirement of regeneration after felling has had a central role in Swedish forestry legislation.
Cleaning »
When the young trees have reached a height of 2-4 metres it is generally necessary to clean the stand.
Environmental consideration »
All activities conducted in the forest must take into consideration the interests of nature conservation and cultural heritage
Thinning »
Felling trees during the vigorous growth period of the stand and utilising the timber is called thinning
Regeneration felling  »
When the trees within a forest stand have reached a certain thickness and length the growth decreases and then it is time to harvest the trees
