Roundwood prices rose in the second quarter of 2010 compared to the prior quarter.

There was an increase in number of hours worked in forestry in 2009 according to the Swedish Forest Agency’s survey in labour force.

According to Swedish Forest Agency’s annual silvicultural activities assessed through questionnaires, the soil scarification was 171, 000 hectares and planted area of 180, 000 hectares in 2009.

Roundwood prices rose by five percent in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the prior quarter.

Notified areas of final felling during the year 2009 were 216,240 hectares. Compared 2008, this is an increase by some 4 % or 7,580 hectares.

Swedish Forest Agency work on formally protected forest depends on the funding available. In 2009, totally 453 areas have been formed with the help of two protective instruments of which 156 areas of habitat protection and 297 areas of nature conservation.

The total stock volume of coniferous sawlogs, pulpwood and chips at the end of 31st December 2009 amounted to 7.1 million m³ f ub (cubic metre solid volume excl. bark), which is a decrease by 50 % compared to 2008.

Sawlogs prices (delivery logs) rose during the fourth quarter of 2009 compared to the prior quarter by 9 percent.
